Speaker Bio:
Dr. Jairaj M. Phatak is a senior civil servant with 30 years’ service. He joined Indian Administrative Service in 1978. He holds a Doctorate from the University of Mumbai and Master Degrees from Harvard University in Public Administration (Kennedy School of Government) and in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
He is Municipal Commissioner, Mumbai (i.e. City Manager) for the last two years. He has long experience in city governance from his earlier assignments as Municipal Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (Pune’s suburbs) and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. He has also been Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Government of Maharashtra. He has been Secretary of several other departments in Maharashtra and has also worked in Government of India for four years. He is also an Visiting Professor to the All India Institute of Local Self-government, Mumbai.
