Why Abu Dhabi ?

In March 2011, the world's top urban planners, decision-makers, mayors and international media will gather in the capital to participate in Global City 2011, Abu Dhabi. Global City is the unique international forum where public and private leaders exchange best practices and share sustainable urban strategies.

The fifth edition of this prestigious event, organized by Reed Exhibitions Middle East and Reed MIDEM, will focus on City Identity and Values and the opportunities these hold for the sustained success and attractiveness of cities worldwide. The event will be a platform to share experiences and expertise from Asian, European, Middle East and North American emblematic cities.

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates has the spirit, substance and vision to be a global city. The city is already an icon in the Middle Eastern region for culture and is a leading financial centre, a major industrial zone, and is enriched by a cosmopolitan population.

Abu Dhabi is strategically located where the West and East meet whilst creating a strong diversified and dynamic economy, with the aim of making the capital an international economic hub, boasting a world-class economic environment with sustainable growth.

Through scientific and long-sighted policy planning, Abu Dhabi is set to become one of the most attractive cities in the world for investment. The Economic Vision for 2030 focuses on building a highly skilled knowledge based workforce and an economy with a heavy emphasis on information and communications technology in industries such as financial services, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, high-tech manufacturing and education services.

It is expected that Global City 2011, Abu Dhabi will garner world-wide recognition for Abu Dhabi as an emerging global city, while enabling participants from around the world to discuss and share experiences and new solutions in urban planning and development.

Global City Abu Dhabi is hosted by the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, Department of Transport, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Western Region Development Authority.
