Global City inaugurates “guest blogger” series to fuel urban sustainability debate - 20 February 2011

Since one out of every two people in the world live in cities, it is not surprising that almost everyone has something to say about them. Global City 2011 Abu Dhabi provides a forum for the world’s finest international voices to discuss urban sustainability challenges. Now, the hotly anticipated Forum will showcase local Middle Eastern voices, via its guest blogging series on www.globalcityforum.com.

Over the coming weeks, an impressive line-up of guest bloggers will be sharing ideas and raising questions crucial to our understanding of city dynamics. Each blogger will develop their personal views on topics including city identity, leadership, city rebranding and new sustainability.

First on the list is “The Culturist” (www.theculturist.com) photographer and ‘culture in urban space’ fan Hind Mezaina, writing about ‘old’ Dubai versus ‘new’ Dubai, hoping the city’s uniqueness and heritage does not vanish among the new buildings, roads and highways.

Next is Kevin Mitchell, architect, interior design expert, and AUS Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Instruction, addressing technical and legal issues related to energy and urban sustainability in the UAE.

Hind and Kevin will be joined by two other bloggers, whose names will be released shortly.
